NoHo

Neighborhood Guide

One of the smallest neighborhoods in the city has for decades served as a hotbed of arts and culture. North of Houston Street (NoHo for short) boasts an incredible array of 19th-century cast iron industrial buildings with spacious loft apartments that drew the likes of Andy Warhol, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Robert Mapplethorpe, and Keith Haring, whose first public mural was on Bowery and Houston. CBGBs helped launch the careers of Blondie and the Ramones, and Hamilton debuted at The Public Theater before going on to become an international sensation. Cobblestone streets are lined with upscale boutiques, design galleries, and restaurants in charming storefront spaces, all within walking distance of SoHo and the Villages.
